THE ROAD RACE TOKYO TAMA 2025 will take place on Sunday, July 13 in the Tama area. This full-scale international competition, which will utilize the cycling road race course from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, is attracting a great deal of attention. Fuchu Art Museum

Appreciate works of art in a nature-rich setting

Located in the lush green environs of Tokyo Metropolitan Fuchunomori Park, Fuchu Art Museum opened in October 2000 under the theme of “Life and Art: An Art Museum that Re-examines Life Connected with Beauty”. On the first floor is an art library that can be used free of charge, a civic gallery, open production room where you can see the artists’ production activities up close, and facilities related to the education and dissemination of art, as well as a café and museum store where visitors can enjoy light meals while admiring the scenery of Fuchunomori Park that changes with the seasons. The exhibition space is located on the second floor. In addition to the museum’s permanent exhibition, a collection which includes works spanning from the Edo period to the present day, you can also enjoy a wide variety of special exhibitions on the theme of “Life and Art” in a relaxed atmosphere.

KEIO ARENA TOKYO

A major hub for sports in the Tama area

KEIO ARENA TOKYO (formerly known as Musashino Forest Sport Plaza) is a renowned sports hub for the Tama area, and in addition to international competitions and major sporting events, it also hosts large-scale events such as concerts and other live performances. The main arena boasts a total playing surface of 4,900 square meters and a capacity of approximately 10,000 people. It also served as the venue for badminton, modern pentathlon (fencing), and wheelchair basketball during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Other facilities that visitors are welcome to use include a pool, training room, fitness studio, and café.

Jindai Botanical Gardens

A botanical garden with seasonal flowers and scenery to enjoy

Jindai Botanical Gardens opened in 1961, and was at the time the only botanical garden in all of Tokyo. With a total area of approximately 510,000 square meters, the garden is home to 100,000 plants across roughly 4,800 varieties, giving you the opportunity to take in the beauty of plants and flowers throughout all four seasons of the year. The garden is divided into 30 blocks based on plant type, and the Rose Garden, which once won the World Federation of Rose Societies Award of Garden Excellence, is a sight to behold in the spring and fall when its various roses are in full bloom. There is also a large greenhouse that contains around 1,300 types of rare tropical plants, and the Garden also engages in work to preserve endangered plants, including ancient varieties of Japanese horticultural plants.

Jindaiji Temple

A historic temple surrounded by water and greenery

Jindaiji Temple, famous as a temple for its powers of protection against misfortune, is one of the oldest temples in the Kanto region, founded during the Nara period (710-794) around 1,300 years ago. After Senso-ji Temple, it is the second oldest temple in Tokyo, and is home to various cultural assets, including a bronze statue of Shaka Nyorai in a seated position, which has been designated a National Treasure. The area is also blessed with an abundance of spring water, and is thus home to a variety of water attractions such as ponds and waterfalls. The temple grounds are also a popular walking spot, its nature-enveloped environment creating an air of healing and tranquility. The approach to the temple is lined with teahouses as well as shops where you can enjoy the famous Jindaiji soba noodles, made using the local spring water. This picturesque setting is a great place both to visit and to enjoy a delicious meal.

Jindaiji Natural Hot Spring Yumori no Sato

High-quality hot spring bathing where you can enjoy the beauty of Japan’s four seasons

After a long day of walking, a great place to relax and relieve your fatigue is Jindaiji Natural Hot Spring Yumori no Sato, which can be found about a six-minute walk from Jindaiji Temple. The hot spring water is pumped up from the source 1,500 meters underground, and the organic substance called humic acid it contains gives it a distinct black color. This hot spring is well known as one of the best black water hot springs in the Kanto region. The hot spring water flows directly into the bath without being diluted, allowing you to enjoy luxurious hot spring bathing in its purest form. There are a variety of baths available at this facility, including the Goemon Bath (traditional Japanese iron cauldron-style bath) and the Waterfall Viewing Bath, as well as an open-air bath where you can enjoy both scenic natural views and forest bathing as you soak in the water. The free shuttle bus service that runs to and from the nearest station adds an extra touch of appreciated convenience.
